Probiotics

What is the Purpose of Your Daily Probiotic?

First, do you know what a probiotic is? Everyone is taking them these days…but what exactly are they and do you really need to take a supplement? Probiotics are beneficial bacterium (most popularly in strains: lactobacillus and bifidobacterium) that are most bioavailable in the gut flora. Probiotics come in many strains and are found in yogurt, tempeh, kombucha, miso kefir, pickles, fermented foods and sauerkrat to name a few.
SMALL-INTESTINES-EVU-az

By now you’ve probably heard of the microbiome, the community of trillions of microorganisms that live inside and on your body. But did you know that microbes are so fundamental to life that they outnumber human cells by 10 to 1?

Our microbiome is full of all kinds of microbes, both good and bad. When our microbiome is balanced, the good guys work hard to keep us vibrant and healthy. However, when too many of the bad guys are hanging around, the good bacteria lose their footing and can’t do their jobs properly. Probiotics work to replenish the beneficial bacteria in our body and provide a myriad of important health benefits.

Here are just SOME of the reasons why taking a daily probiotic supplement is one of the best things you can do to improve your overall health and wellness.

1. Promote a healthy microbiome

Modern diets are filled with preservatives, sugar, dyes, pesticides and additives. This kind of exposure to antibiotics in both medicine and food (including fruits/veggies)  can wreak havoc on your body’s delicate balance of bacteria. Even aging, stress, environmental toxins, and medications (such as antacids, birth control, and steroids) can have indiscriminate effects on your healthy microflora balance.

When the good guys are overwhelmed, your microbiome can quickly shift and create issues that are less than ideal. Luckily, consuming probiotic supplements can increase your body’s levels of healthy bacteria and encourage optimal conditions in your body.

2. Balances immune system

Approximately 80% of your immune system is located in your gut! Because so many of your immune cells inhabit your intestinal tract, a healthy and balanced immune response is largely dependent on strong communities of beneficial bacteria existing within the gut environment. A high-quality supplement (preferably with multiple strains of good bacteria) works to crowd out the bad guys and support the foundation of your health at its core.

3. Enhance nutrient absorption

No matter how “healthy” you eat and how many superfoods you consume daily, your body won’t be able to benefit from them if your gut environment isn’t teeming with healthy bacteria. You see, enzymes and digestive bacteria break down the food you eat into molecules that make their way into your bloodstream to nourish your body. Inadequate or unbalanced microbial populations in the gut can derail this process and can even lead to malabsorption of critical nutrients.

A daily supplemental probiotic may help your body naturally absorb all of the nutrients from your food and the additional supplements that you are taking.

4. Improve your mood

Your “gut feeling” is more than just a hunch. In fact, your mental and emotional balance hinge on a healthy gut environment.   The good guys in your intestinal tract produce hundreds of nervous system chemicals that regulate your moods. Indeed, almost 95% of your body’s serotonin—the happiness chemical also found in the brain—is manufactured by your gut bacteria, so replenishing them often is one of the best things you can do to support healthy emotional function.

5. Maintain a healthy body weight

According to recent research, having a healthy balance of microflora in your gut helps speed up your metabolism and can even encourage weight loss. In one study, women who took probiotics over a six month period lost more weight, and were able to maintain and continue that loss, than those taking a placebo. An unbalanced gut can also lead to changes in mood and hormone levels that trigger “comfort food” cravings, leading to unwanted extra pounds.

6. Fight bad breath/body odor

You may be surprised to learn that our mouths and skin are home to an incredible amount of bacteria. This bacteria may cause odors. Studies show that certain probiotics, like Streptococcus salivarius K12, can help support the oral microbiome by suppressing the growth of bad breath-causing microbes. Unlike mouthwash or mints that simply mask bad breath odor, probiotics can help overcome this occasional, yet embarrassing, issue by encouraging long-term equilibrium of oral bacteria. There are also proven benefits that it can clear skin (whether taken internally or topically).

7. Lowers inflammation

It can help with pain and inflammation. By supporting immune system, probiotics can help to alleviate temporary inflammation—improving the health of your bones, joints, skin, and other areas of your body. In a study published in Gut Microbes, researchers measured participants’ levels of acute inflammation before and after taking Bifidobacterium supplements. By the end of the 8-week trial, inflammation levels significantly decreased in the probiotic group, proving that these good bacteria can effectively keep temporary inflammation in check.

8. Reduces tired/foggy brain/fatigue

A foggy brain has a lot to do with digestion. Fatigue (and the resulting irritability) are often signs of poor digestion, which occurs as a result of an unhealthy gut. Scientists administered Lactobacillus plantarum to mice for six weeks. At the end of the trial, the mice showed increased grip strength, muscle weight, and endurance; and decreased fatigue. Taking beneficial probiotics can help give you energy and support your body’s ability to properly digest and process all the healthy nutrients you eat so you can regain your vitality.

9. Balance your blood sugar

Did you know that probiotics can help balance blood sugar levels? Yes, gut bacteria communicate with your cells to send chemical messages throughout your body. This communication process, in turn, enables your body to support and maintain healthy glucose levels. Taking a daily probiotic ensures that enough of the good guys are working on your behalf to optimize all of your body’s processes.

10. Improve the appearance of your skin

Your skin is your largest organ, and it protects your body from countless external threats. But, what many people don’t realize is that your skin is an important reflection of your internal health. Skin problems can result from nutritional and hormonal imbalances, as well as immune system disruptions, all issues that begin in the gut. By helping you to better absorb the nutrients from your foods and supporting immune system response, probiotics can reduce temporary inflammation and help you achieve healthier-looking skin that glows.

Crave Cutter Supplement

Crave Cutter Supplement
Crave Cutter Supplement
Crave Cutter Supplement

Crave-Cutter™

contains key amino acids to support the biosynthesis of neurotransmitters involved in appetite control, carbohydrate or fat cravings, and mood. Chromium is present to support healthy glucose metabolism and support food intake regulation.*

Clinical Applications:

  • Nutritional Support for Carb, Fat, Alcohol and Drug Cravings
  • Supports Healthy Weight by Reducing Carb Cravings
  • Supports Healthy Serotonin Levels
  • Improved Sense of Wellbeing and Energy
  • Healthy weight and blood glucose management

Crave Cutter has helped patients lose an average of 9.75 pounds in 2 weeks!*

Here is a breakdown of the key ingredients:

5-Hydroxytryptophan (“5-HTP”) is a naturally-occurring amino acid precursor to serotonin. Numerous studies during the ‘90s, including those randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled, confirmed the safety and efficacy of 5-HTP in reducing appetite and food intake in obese healthy and non-insulin-dependent diabetic individuals. A 2006 study in mice concluded, 5-HTP-induced decrease in appetite by mediating the facilitation of leptin secretion. Leptin is the hunger hormone that tells your brain that you are SATISFIED.

Vitamins B6 and C are important cofactors in the 5-HTP to serotonin pathway. Among the several serotonin receptors thus identified, the 5HT2C receptors are suspected in control of food intake. Mice without this receptor exhibit increased food intake and become obese. If your serotonin is low, you will want quick energy by consuming sweets and carbs (COMFORT FOODS!)

DL-Phenylalanine (DLPA) is a combination of the d- and the l- forms of this essential amino acid. Phenylalanine suppresses appetite by regulating the release of cholecystokinin, which in turns signals satiety in the brain. D-phenylalanine increases endorphins, while L-phenylalanine is an amphetamine-like stimulatory compound. DLPA has been found to elevate mood, curb appetite and reduce pain in various studies.

L-Tyrosine, an essential amino acid is needed for conversion into the catecholamine neurotransmitters stress depletes: dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. It is also a precursor for thyroxine. Doctors use tyrosine as a mood elevator, to increase alertness after sleep deprivation and as an appetite suppressant. Many people seek sugar when needing a dopamine rush or are tired.

L-Glutamine, well–recognized for gut and immune support, has also been espoused to reduce carbohydrate cravings and support alcohol withdrawal, although the mechanism of action for these benefits is not known.  Glutamine is an essential amino acid produced in the muscles and is distributed by the blood to the organs that need it. Glutamine also helps the immune system especially in times of stress.

Chromium, as chromium picolinate is widely used to optimize insulin function; thereby preventing swings in blood glucose levels that may be responsible for carbohydrate cravings. The mineral in the form present was indeed demonstrated to reduce carbohydrate cravings in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study (Tacheon ).

*Individual results may vary. A customized nutritional plan along with exercise will promote greatest results along with supplementation

Why You Can’t Shed Lbs.

WHY YOU CAN’T SHED LBS.
Why You Can’t Shed Lbs.
WHY YOU CAN’T SHED LBS.

1.)  Undoing all of your hard work during the week by overeating while binge watching tv shows or out at parties over the weekend.

2.) Lack of physical activity when you are not at the gym. If you sit most of the day (at home, at work) but only work out 1 hour per day, your metabolism is only revved during certain hours. It is important to move constantly throughout each day.

3.)  Portion distortion of healthy foods… Eating too much healthy food such as olive oil can cause weight gain. If you are eating “half of an avocado” will be different if you are eating half of a large or half of a small Hass. Make sure you weigh out or measure portions in order to know the exact amount you are consuming.

4.)  High Cortisol levels (stress hormone) causes weight gain around the midsection. It is important to practice mindfulness by meditating and breathing.

5.)  Licking your spoon every time you bake or trying a bite or two of your child’s dinner can lead to weight gain over time.

6.)  If you diet for months at a time, and eat the same things over without giving your body a break, your body will begin to stall. It is important to switch up the amounts and kinds of food you consume.

7.)  Low Vitamin D is linked to trouble losing weight according to various studies.

8.)  Chronic inflammation (pain) can make it harder to shed pounds.

9.)  Lack of sleep (which can also cause stress) makes making healthy choices harder throughout the day.

10.) Hypothyroidism regulates your body temperature, in turn making your metabolism slower and weight loss harder to reach.

11.)  Overdoing exercise and not getting proper rest will cause cortisol levels to rise and stay elevated.

Nighttime Routine for your Best Morning Yet

Best Morning Ever

Nighttime Routine For Your Best Morning Ever:

Best Morning Ever motivated-EVU-AZ

Wake up happy and motivated by doing this at night:

  1. Brush your teeth when you feel like having a nighttime snack. You should brush your teeth before bed anyways, but this will help ward off the urge to eat things before bed (especially since it does not taste as good with a minty mouth 😉
  2. Prepare your outfit for the morning and have your workout gear and shoes ready for you to jump into the second you get out of bed. This will motivate you and not give you an excuse or waste any morning time. Don’t forget your headphones, a water bottle, shoes and jacket!
  3. Go to bed early (so you can get at least 7-9 hours) of sleep per night! Skip the late night snacks, which helps you sleep better and burn more calories in the morning on an empty stomach.
  4. Make a dream board, to-do agenda, or goal list (not just before bed) but make sure to note what you want to accomplish the next day. Then the next day, mark it off. If you have a clearer idea of what you want to do, you are more likely to do it. AND GET SPECIFIC! Your brain craves routine, so literally write down that you want to run 1.5 miles and do 15 push-up burpees at 6AM. (yes, that specific)
  5. Imagine your morning (picture it in your mind, the feels, the temperature, and how happy you will be). When you wake up in the morning, go back to that picture in your head, and you will be more likely to experience it. The motivation to achieve that feeling will be worthwhile.
  6. MEAL PREP! And do it with intention…If you go for a run at 6AM, either run on an empty stomach or have a small piece of fruit for quick energy. Follow it up with a complete balanced meal with PROTEIN, some healthy fat, and some greens for more energy.
  7. Set your alarm to a tune or tone that is inspiring and amusing…not a dinging banging noise that you hate listening to. Pandora actually has an alarm and turn on a certain radio station at the time you wake up. Set it to your favorite music, which is going to make your mornings SO MUCH BETTER…promise 😉
  8. Have a back-up plan… If it is raining, OR SNOWING!…What is your plan B? Can you still run or go to the gym? What about a free online workout video on Youtube, BeachBodyOnDemand.com or Barre3.com? (Ps-Those are my favorites for free online workouts). Maybe call a friend and see if they want to go for a walk later in the day so you don’t skip out completely.
  9. Challenge yourself but DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF! You are only in competition with yourself, not others. Some days are better than others, but be your own cheerleader. When you do not feel like getting up in the morning, ask yourself if your favorite athlete would ever skip out on a day just because they wanted to hit snooze one more time. Cheer and motivate yourself to get it done because of the rewards after are more fulfilling than the actual task at hand. When you say you won’t do something out of laziness, you are actually sending a neural pathway that tells your brain that is true! TELL YOURSELF A DIFFERENT STORY, THAT YOU ARE BEAST AND GOING TO KILL YOUR WORKOUT….and watch yourself JUST DO IT.

NOT THAT: Kellogg’s Smart Start Antioxidant cereal: made with synthetic multivitamins, you are better off just having a piece of fruit. It contains 14 grams of sugar and 43! grams of total carbs. It has artificial coloring (yellow) and is filled with 4 different types of sugar!

ED Treatments

ED and erectile dysfunction treatments AZ

ED affects approximately 30 to 40 million males across the United States—ED and erectile dysfunction treatments are more common than you might think.

In fact, the words “erectile dysfunction treatments” are searched over 5000 times every month on Google. This simple statistic validates the existence of large numbers of men seeking effective treatment options.

As a male with ED, you may be experiencing some degree of depression or even be suffering from a loss of self-esteem or self-confidence. This may decrease your willingness to engage in any form of intimacy, disrupting the integrity of your long-term sexual relationship. The good news? As an expert in men’s sexual health, I can tell you that nearly 100% of men with ED can be treated successfully

…nearly 100% of men with ED can be treated successfully.

Although there are thousands of pages of online content regarding erectile dysfunction treatments, only four medical treatment options are commonly prescribed by urologists:

  • Oral Pills
  • Intra-Urethral Suppositories
  • Penile Injections
  • Vacuum Erection Devices
  • Uro-Gold 100
  • Surgery

These ED treatment options are all long-term therapies that can help manage the problem, but none of them actually provide cures for erectile dysfunction. Although many patients utilize these erectile dysfunction treatments successfully, approximately 70% discontinue their therapy within one year of follow-up due to the lack of efficacy and spontaneity, as well as high cost and ongoing side effects. Ultimately, it is the task of the urologist to identify the best erectile dysfunction treatments for each individual patient, focusing on the specific attributes that are most likely to achieve the greatest long-term success rates.

FORTUNATELY, WHEN MEDICAL TREATMENTS FAIL, THERE IS STILL HOPE! EVU CENTER HAS THE ANSWERS!

The single best solution for erectile dysfunction is the penile implant. As opposed to the medical therapies listed above, the penile implant is the only long-term solution that will definitively address ED.

The penile implant is a water-filled device that is placed through a small incision located just above the penis in the midline. After the device is placed, you will not need medications to perform sex, and the device is free of maintenance. Overwhelmingly, the implant allows you to achieve an erection for as long as you want, whenever you want. Your penile sensations, orgasms, and ejaculations remain normal and unaffected by the procedure. When the implant is deflated, the implant is soft and invisible. And when the implant is inflated, it appears natural for both you and your partner. Based on my extensive experience with penile implants over the last 18 years, the procedure can be absolutely transformational.

While the penile implant is often the best solution for men who have failed other conservative therapies, it still remains a secret to the community at-large due to a lack of education and marketing. For many years, penile implants have been misunderstood, and both primary care physicians and urologists have failed to educate their patients about this highly successful option. The Penile Implant procedure is relatively quick and straight-forward to perform, and has a modest recovery time of only 2–3 weeks. Importantly, only a small percentage of urologists perform penile implants in high volume. Therefore, it is very important to find a urologist who specializes in men’s health and penile implants (a prosthetic urologist) in order to obtain the most comprehensive evaluation and effective erectile dysfunction treatments.

Lemon Water

Benefits Of Drinking Lemon Water

10 Benefits Of Drinking Lemon Water Every Morning

What we do first thing after waking up in the morning is what sets the theme for how the rest of the day may go, whether it is what we think, eat, or drink.

After coming out of our sleepy states – post the night-long work of fixing, cleansing, and repairing cells – our bodies need some hydration to clean the residue of the body’s toxins and revive its cells.

It is advisable to drink warm water instead of cold water in the morning as it fuels our systems a lot easier and processes functions better, too.

So, why not add a twist of lemon to that morning gulp of water? All you need to do is fill a 1-liter bottle with warm, cold, or room-temperature water and add about 4 slices of lemon to it. That citrus burst of flavor in your water, may also motivate you to want to drink more.

Our bodies are made up of around 60% water; however, we do not drink enough to keep our body’s water content at a healthy level. To counter this, adding some lemon slices to your daily dose of water can help your body’s cells get hydrated, absorb lemon’s natural and needed nutrients of vitamin C, limonene, citric acid, fiber, calcium, antioxidants like flavonoids, potassium, magnesium, pectin, and iron.

Benefits Of Drinking Lemon Water AZ

Here are some more reasons to drink some lemon water today and every day.

  1. Boosts The Brain

Lemon water is said to reduce headaches, help you think clearly, focus better, and even increase brain power.

  1. Acts As A Mouth Freshener

Just drinking lemon water or even making your own antiseptic mouthwash with lemon juice in it can help keep your breath fresh by killing bad bacteria built up in your mouth. Lemon stimulates saliva and helps to reverse dry mouth when consumed with water.

  1. Stabilizes The Heart And Blood

The American Heart Association claimed that lemon water can reduce the risk of getting a stroke. Lemon being one of the top seven sources of potassium, it also helps stabilize blood pressure.

  1. Cleanses Your Lungs

It helps your respiratory system stay in top function and reduce the accumulation of mucus or phlegm so that you can breathe easier and better.

  1. Purifies Your Stomach

Having just a 500-ml glass of water with lemon first thing in the morning can improve your digestion and energy levels for the whole day. It also keeps you from getting hungry too easily, as it fills you up for longer. It further promotes the overall cleansing of your digestive and intestinal tracts and keeps your body from experiencing issues like constipation.

  1. Detoxes The Liver

It purifies and detoxes your entire system, which is done by optimizing your liver function.

  1. Washes The Kidneys And Urinary Tracts

Drinking lemon water can prevent urinary tract infections (UTI) and kidney stones. Citric acid in lemons may help prevent calcium kidney stones. UW Health recommends increasing citric acid intake to decrease your risk of getting new calcium stones.

  1. Acts As A Youth Serum For The Skin

It has also been said to reduce your body and skin’s natural aging effects, including reducing wrinkles and making you look younger. A few drops of lemon juice rubbed all over your skin can also act as a natural insect repellent.

  1. Fights Pain And Illnesses

Lemon water is known to lower inflammation in the body, especially in your joints, reduce pains of most kinds, and even reduce a high fever.

  1. Provides A Healthier Lifestyle/Weight Loss Aid

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition showed that polyphenol antioxidants found in lemons significantly reduced weight gain caused by a high-fat diet in mice. In addition, insulin resistance was improved. If you’re trying to cut down on the amount of coffee you drink, use some hot lemon water as a substitute. In terms of overall physical health, it regulates your metabolic rates, strengthens your immune system to prevent diseases, and helps burn calories as there are only 4 calories in a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. It also gives your body its needed hydration and oxygen and even stabilizes the pH levels to make you feel lighter, have more energy, and be healthier overall.
